To further explore the themes in the series, I’ve incorporated interviews with my sitters.

While the abstract imagery highlights cultural erasure, the interviews preserve the subjects’ voices, establishing a personal, emotional connection. These recordings will play on cassette tape loops that interact with the images in the installation. Some pinhole cameras will function as speakers, with the subjects’ voices emanating from the objects, creating a “ghostly” presence that echoes their portraits. The cassette tapes will be modified to self-decay over time, causing the sound to gradually distort until the voices become noise and eventually disappear. This natural evolution reflects the process of cultural appropriation and erasure, with earlier visitors hearing clearer recordings and later visitors encountering altered or erased messages, the two visitors having completely different experiences and understandings of the work.
